Hi,

A sewing needle of a safety pin with the sharp point used as the
"business end" is really helpful for not sliding off the test point and
shorting something, too. The heat shrink tubing is excellent for
insulating the bulk of the needle. I am not sure it will withstand very
high voltages but my experience has been those high voltage bits are
larger and spaced farther apart - a point contact tip wouldn't be needed.

A careful eye and a set of needle nose also allows one to "curl" the tip to a hook similar to the hook on an old Heathkit HV probe, just de-energize the circuit, attach the hook to your TP and then energize for measurement. Lots of useful probe-like tools can be made a home and heat shrink is great for adding insulation.
