David,

On occasion, I've used an extended (opened unfolded paper clip) with the smallest heat shrink tube, shrunk down over the extended paper clip for insulation, leaving just the very tip exposed. A careful eye and a set of needle nose also allows one to "curl" the tip to a hook similar to the hook on an old Heathkit HV probe, just de-energize the circuit, attach the hook to your TP and then energize for measurement. Lots of useful probe-like tools can be made a home and heat shrink is great for adding insulation.
