Here's a picture of an ugly NC-173 front panel. Notice the enlarged holes
for some of the pots in the front panel. Controls actually secure to just
the chassis and not the front panel.

I assume you're talking about replacing the pot(s) which the bushing has
to go through the main panel and the escutcheon panel. If you can't find
a bushing on a pot long enough to go through both panels, you can remove
the escutcheon panel; enlarge the hole in question so that the nut will
tighten against the main panel. The knobs have a large enough skirt that
you can't see the hole enlargement.
