[Boatanchors] Hamfest Pricing

The ones I get to attend, I absolutely hate not seeing some kind of
price on it. It gives me a good indication if I might be able to do
business with the person or if I should just keep walking.
At this point there isn't anything that I can't really live without and
only two pieces of gear that I would like to find for a reasonable price
for pure nostalgia. An Ameco AC-1 and a Weskit BN-1. Just want them
mainly for shelf items and conversation pieces for the newer hams that
come over and have never used code or done so minimally and missed the
tube era.
Unfortunately both of these have somehow achieved an almost cult like
following and the prices are more than I am willing to pay. I do have an
AC-1 clone, but having owned an original during my Novice year, as my
first "store bought" kit,( cost was $15 or $16, which really was a LOT
of money in 1965/66 to a 12 year old kid ) it would be nice to sit next
to my S-40 that I still have, that I used with it.I also built a Weskit
BN-1 but didn't try to make it look like the original. That may be a
future project.
If I do see a price, and I am interested, my negotiating usually amounts
to what is your absolute best price on it. I have never been much of a
wheeler dealer.
I have started to sell a few things now, and I don't care about eBay
prices. I put a fair and reasonable price on it and also put or best
reasonable offer , to let them know there is some negotiating room and I
really don't want to take it home.( I normally sell out the first
evening, or morning of the event )
I too am not going to give it away at a hamfest for some guy to turn
around and resell it on eBay, for a big profit. If the offers are
ridiculously low, I will just watch the groups that I subscribe to and
wait until I see someone who really does want what I have and then pass
it along to them free of charge, including shipping. I would rather see
it used and appreciated for free, than just bought as part of an eBay
business.
