I read that link per some suggestions I received earlier this evening, and also page 84 of the Heath SB-220 manual, and came up with some revisions to the schematic at http://www.rkt-tech.com/warrior labeled "UPDATE".

If you're so inclined, please take a look at that and let me know if you think I'm on the right track.

basically the grid meter goes from filament center tap to ground. The plate
current meter goes from the top side of the grid meter to B-. you would lift
the B- from ground and it would now go to the meter shunt.
