That's a fascinating set of pictures.  Assuming that it's one of the HF 
models, it's possible it could be used to detect the presence of an 
oscillator signal or some such.

OTOH, knowing the ingenuity of the troops, it could be used to listen to 
international broadcast during those long stints of bomb building.

I wonder where it is today?
