    It could also have been used as a detector for a VHF 
impedance bridge or something of the sort. Of course, it 
would be interesting to know what the other equipment 
pictured is.  I have seen the S-36 (or maybe the S-27, they 
look quite similar) in photos of the FCC monitoring 
stations.  I don't think they had much competition at the 
time.
