Not sure what you mean about "running a vfo into it". The ssb signal is
generated at 9 MHz and the vfo must be on a frequency offset by that to get
it to a ham band. A 5 MHz vfo will get you on 80 and 20 meters.
Now if you just want to run it on cw and bypass the 9 MHz stuff you can run
a vfo into it at the frequency that you want to operate cw on. You can also
use an on frequency crystal to operate straight thru.
