   Currently:  FCC 97.307

     (a) No amateur station transmission shall occupy more bandwidth
than necessary for the information rate and emission type being
transmitted, in accordance with good amateur practice.

   As written (in force for 50 years) it simply stated something like;
no more bandwidth necessary for communication, but I see the over
strictness has been corrected.
