Wayne, et al,
I will be put a picture of a similar connector on a website tomorrow.  The connector will have a different number of pins but it is of the same fashion as two others that are used inside the HX-500.  Hopefully the picture will spark someone's memory.  The mating connector is required to connect the transmitter to a receiver for t/r switching and/or running FSK, at minimum.  There may be other applications which require access to connections on the rear connector.
P.S.  The videos I watched by K7PP did not have a view of the connector unless I just missed it. Brian Harris, WA5UEK

This link on youtube that gives a fair look at the connector at about 33 seconds into the (no sound) video:

It'd be lots better if we had a hi-res closeup photo with a ruler scale laid by it so sizes can be judged.

How about a picture of the socket?
Cutting down a larger plug has already been suggested but a picture would
still assist re selection of one to work on.  As a point of interest, 20/30
years back, the local market here in ZL  had lots of asian sourced look
alikes with many that had odd pin configurations but otherwise, to a cursory
glance, were a jones type plug/socket combo.  But they were not, and no way
would they interchange with the real thing.
