Hmmm... well, I worked the variac up to 120 volts input, then took the variac out of the circuit and plugged the amp into the wall. With 122.6 VAC going in, I'm only getting about 1570 VDC out of the HV plate supply under no load except for the bleeder (tubes are not yet installed).

The HV plate supply is as original (original transformer, choke, capacitor) except the rectifiers have been replaced with 1N5408 diodes, two strings of 10 diodes each, with 0.01 caps across each diode.

I really expected to get closer to 1700 VDC. There is no evidence of damage or deterioration of the transformer, choke, or cap. Does it look like there might be a problem, or should I just go with it as is?
