There were a LOT of authors that didn't get paid. What was even worse was that, at the time, I was considered "staff" being that I was the first FM Editor of CQ. A number of other "staff" members didn't get paid as well. The non-staff authors got treated even worse.

I agree, but then again, you were dealing with the Cowans and you weren't
the only one that probably got screwed for articles not paid.
When Lafayette Radio went under the court protection of Chapter 11 the
first time, they owed me close to $1K for doing service work of their customer
products. Never saw a penny of it, until 5 years later when I got 10 cents
on the dollar as payment.
