All of the posts on desoldering components have one thing in common.  They are making the job harder and more complicated to fix than necessary.  It is not necessary to desolder these large
connections where there are several components soldered together.  Just clip out the bad component, close to the body leaving the two bare ends, then use a small diameter wire connector then solder in the new component.  It produces a professional and neat
repair and does not require a large soldering iron.  If a wire is to short just use a wire connector to extend the wire.  No more kluges or bad connections.
