I see these woods from a different point of view.

I don't look at them for some tone or such.  I am a wood carver by hobby.

We look for exotic wood for the carving ability, and the appearance that 
they produce.

However, I also get them through companies that ONLY import those that 
are legal.

Rosewood is one of those that we seek for things such as carving a 
jewelry box.  I even do inlays with other woods such as Ebony. (Try 
carving THAT!)
