Bry:
A lot of the exotic tonewoods are now protected by international treaties and several instrument makers have gotten jacked up for illegally importing these woods.
To me, as a guitar and banjo player, this wood stuff is as crazy as audiophoolery. Guitar players will play unbelievable premiums for guitars with Brazilian rosewood backs and sides. I doubt, however, that anyone can really tell the difference between a guitar with Brazilian rosewood and one with East Indian rosewood. Nevertheless, these guys believe Brazilian rosewood sounds better just like the audiophooles believe that Black Beauties sound better. Go figure.
