[Boatanchors] newbie question

When I was in high school (1958 - 1962), K9BPV had a radio / television repair shop and paid me a "flat rate" to repair radios like the All American 5 sets. Other than tubes with open heaters, the most common problem was that the owner had "tightened" all of the loose screws which, of course, threw the alignment so far out that the receiver would not work at all. Often, the owner "tightened the screws" because the set had ceased to operate because of an open tube heater. Replacing the bad tube and then aligning the receiver got the set working again.

I don't know about that case, but a young friend bought a CB in the early
1980s. A friend told him he could increase the power by adjusting the
screws
Needless to say, it quit working at all.
