[Boatanchors] RCA remote

I have come across an RCA remote broadcast unit.  This was used at., like it says a remote site to do a broadcast across the tel line to the studio and then on to the transmitter.  Not like the present STL units.  The model number of it is MI-31739-B.  Its really clean and nice on the outside, i've put new tubes in it but there are some "issues" under the chassis.  I remember removing some burnt (to a toast to say the least) power resistors and then set it off into the dark corner of the shack to get to again, some day.  The power /vol control is shorted for one thing, the AC line plug has been taped together and there are some wires hanging inside that must be there for some purpose.  I have no paper on this thing and am needing info before i dig into it.  If nothing else i'll strip all the wires out of it and rewire it as a speech amp for my 4-250 rig which needs something like this to sound decent.

Any help out there?  If you need to see a pix of it, i can do that also.
