The very rare JX-21A came with a crystal controlled BFO and product detector (6BE6 as I recall) from the factory.  Don't know what, if any, mods were made to the AGC. 

I saw one of these for sale at a hamfest in Dallas many years ago, that came out of WWV in Boulder.  Only one Ive ever seen in the flesh. Even then it was out of my pay grade, although in hindsight ... Well, hindsight is always better ;)
