For my HRO Sr., I wanted a very simple mid-1930s TX that a kid
with limited funds might have built on a wooden plank.
I built a single-tube, crystal-controlled power oscillator using an 814.
Only ran 550 V on the plate for 35 watts out and it is tough on crystals.
FT-243 won't work- too much current.
So I intend to rebuild it as MOPA (probably still crystal, though).
I cathode-modulated it by plugging the output tranny secondary
across the key jack. Worked very well.
