Yes, you would have to remove the tapered pin on the vernier control
shaft to dismount the front panel. No easy way to do this that I know
of. I've re-capped several of these things and while the cap behind
the front panel is hard to reach removal of the panel not necessary to
replace. Also not necessary to disassemble the RF coil enclosures,
merely worry off one of the leads on each of the buried caps with a
long skinny hemostat and then solder the replacement component in an
electrical equivalent but accessible location. Did find it necessary
to dismount the xtal filter can to replace the black plastic cap
inside that one, though.
Have also gotten away with NOT replacing the oil-filled units in the
metal cans except in an old (1938) "A" set .
