Richard,
I can't take credit for the Excel spreadsheets.
Someone on another list I belong to did so.
The only "good" reference for reading these capacitors that I know of,
is the software package, "Electronics Genius". You pick the style of
package by picture, then enter the colors presented on the face of it.
It will automatically tell you if it is RMA vs. JAN. I have no monetary
interest in this software at all.
It simply is a great piece of software. I saw an old version, and
purchased the latest version. It does a GREAT deal more. While I don't
use all of its features, it sure helps to have it available.
As to the style of capacitors that we are talking about are quite
plentiful in old gear, they can easily lead one astray.
I'd love to see ONE comprehensive Military table. I spent over 20 yrs
in uniform. I carried both the PRC-25 and the PRC-47. I know there
were always changes to "Mil. Spec."
It drove us crazy. We would always end up with some piece of equipment
that was commercial, yet made in quantity for the Military. That was
when the "Mil. Spec." would go out the window!
I know that as recently, around 2001 - 2002, that one-of-a-kind type
connectors were being made and sold to the military. They were
"Proprietary", yet were necessary for the specialized items.
Mil. Spec. essentially is a set of standards that are to be met for
Military or Government manufactured equipment. Other than that, they
are always being updated, and are always behind.
