I use an attenuator in a mini-box mounted right at the co-ax terminal.
There is an attenuator calculation page on the WEB (I don't have it handy)
A few years ago Phil Salas, AD5X wrote an article for QST, his attenuator
used Caddock resistors.
I used them in my project. They need a lot of heat sinking for AM.
