[Boatanchors] question about chokes

                     Have a 751 Eico supply that the Hi voltage choke ,went open somewhere inside. The choke is a swinging 2-12 henry type. I doubt I can ever find another one at a price that anyone would invest in this old supply. I realize the choke is a big filter item,but If I removed the choke from the circuit, Would I really know the difference? Most supplies like this one ,such as the drake and most of the heath supplies don't have a choke and are very similar to this one . Any Ideas in good or bad to operate with out the choke?
