Back in the 30's, most of Hallicrafters receivers were contracted out to
Howard Radio for assembly.

Edwin Armstrong's middle name was Howard.

And, although most refer to it today as SAMS Technical Publishing or
simply SAMS, back in the good old days, it was referred to as Howard W.
Sams.
