Definitely dooable. On the receive side get yourself one of the old
Gonset converters (which others have described) and steal B+ for it
from the original 6V BC radio in the vehicle. On the transmit side
find one of the old PE-103 dynamotors which ran off either 6 or 12vdc
input and which were also designed to work in vehicular systems with
either pos. or neg. primary ground systems and start from there. The
PE-103 puts out about 500 volts, fine for the various Elmac, Morrow,
Harvey Wells and other mobile xmtrs of the era. On the antenna side,
the old Master Mobile components show up on eBay and elsewhere from
time to time. You'll have to get creative technically in a few
places before you finish a project like this but then guys "back then"
had to do that too (like rolling your own antenna loading coils for
ex.)... :^)
Good luck!
