[Boatanchors] vintage mobile radio and antenna

Hi all,
The later Gonset "Super Six" convertors were labeled "universal 6-12
volts", supplied wired for 12, easily converted back to 6v. They
covered 75m-10m ham bands of the time. I bought and used one in 1958,
thought it was setup for 6v, but had to change it over when it was very
deaf. Also used it as fixed stn rcvr with a surplus DF rcvr as IF.
Have another now, looks good, but awaiting an application.
73,

Al, W8UT

Dynamotors are hard on batteries, and usually need replacement often. Also generators have a hard time keeping up, unless you have one from a 6v police car or fire engine.

I could conver the electrical to 12 negative ground but it would not be simple nor would it be cheap. Is a vintage ham radio a pipe dream? What are your recommendations, suggestions, or warnings? Plus what type of antenna should Iook for? Thanks for your help.
