[Boatanchors] vintage mobile radio and antenna

I have a restored 1949 Ford F-1 pickup with the original electrical system which is 6 bold positive ground. I am considering adding a vintage radio. I could conver the electrical to 12 negative ground but it would not be simple nor would it be cheap. Is a vintage ham radio a pipe dream? What are your recommendations, suggestions, or warnings? Plus what type of antenna should Iook for? Thanks for your help.
