Very interesting, thank you. I disassembled the mechanism and discovered  a

amount of crud on the worm. Cleaned this up. Reassembled and - beginner's  
luck -
got it back together. However, I must have applied too much preload  
because the
amount of torque required to operate was excessive. Upon second attempt -  
goodbye
beginner's luck - all three of the tension springs decided to disconnect  
themselves;
fortunately only on one end. I will see about reattaching them  tomorrow.


Incidentally, the capacitor rotor shaft doesn't move as freely as I would  
expect.
I imagine this worsens the backlash.
