It has been many years since I procured a "Home Use" UPS.

I went for a Commercial Duty 5KVA to 7.5KVA one.  They hold up a LOT better.

I've been contemplating a small wind turbine such as the one that Jay 
Leno has on his Garage.  I'd tie it to a battery bank to float it, and 
sell the excess back to the power company.

The other thought has been to procure a 22KW Generac with an ATS.  Those 
are liquid cooled, and run at a lower RPM and use propane for fuel.

Then I'd be set for when it goes dark.  Although in 24+ years of living 
here, I've only had it go dark twice.  The longest was when an 
underground cable went south.  It took them a few hours to identify 
which one and switch over to a spare.
