[Boatanchors] Restringing SX-71 drive cord

I am restoring an SX-71. Most of the dial stringing is OK, but that between
the bandspread
drive knob and the large pulley that operates the bandspread capacitor is
disconnected.

I have the original manual and the Sam's version, so I can see a couple of
clear restringing
diagrams. So far, I have removed the front panel successfully.

One thing I am unclear about is how to access the upper pulley. It looks as
if I need to
slide the frequency scale plate out from behind the two pointers (the
pointer stringing
is fine - I really don't want to have to replace any more than I absolutely
need to). But
the S-meter is in the way.

I haven't restrung a drive before. Any tips, suggestions, etc, would be
much appreciated.
