We had to not only read The Federalist Papers but there were a few questions that covered them on our final exam. Thanks to our REAL TEACHER John Sasenik (Capt US Army Air Force, later LTC US Air Force Reserve as he was proud to point out). 50 some years later I still remember him.

As for slide rules, we used them in electrical engineering and math , but were not allowed to use them on exams. We needed to do all math calculations by hand and show the worksheet on how the answer was obtained. Multiple choice???? HAH!!!!!!

Are any high school students required to read The Federalist Papers as a
part of American History?

I got my first slide rule in about 1952.  Used it my Jr. and Sr. years
in high school.  Hated slide rule 101 in engineering school.
