I also own a very large old Superior variac.

It is rated somewhere close to 40A.  Once my impending hernia repairs 
are completed, I'll look into placing it in a rack.  It weighs somewhere 
around 70 lbs.

It would be easy to add metering to monitor the output.  I already have 
an AC standalone meter for the voltage.  There is an old Weston clamp on 
ammeter that would get pressed into service for the current monitoring.

The rack will have to have weight added to the rear to counter the mass 
of the variac.

This has been here for some odd number of years, and was intended for a 
project that never materialized.  It has been long enough, and this year 
has already been slated for the shack operating position rebuild.

It will be put off until recovery, then get underway.
