It's a modification described in the November 1954 issue of QST in an article entitled "Gadgets for the S-76" by Lew McCoy. It's available off Julian Bunn's S-76 web-page at

See page two of the article for a photo. The text starts with "the mounting of the antenna trimmer condenser was a simple matter of making a bracket that fitted on the frame of the bandspread condenser."
