[Boatanchors] Now I've heard it all

A Generalized rant:
What we are seeing is the rise of a techno-priesthood.
In the 1920s and 30s, people were technically competant and the people
were able to fix their things. If you drove a car, you were expected to
know how to change a tire, change the oil, grease the bearings, etc.
Now, even if you are an engineer with graduate degrees, you essentially
cannot repair a car. That has become the province of the priesthood with
code readers, specialized fixtures, and analyzers.
In the 1950s and 1960s, people ofter fixed their own radios and TVs by
taking the tubes into the local drugstor and using their tube tester. Now,
you need a pro to change your cell or watch battery.
So, now we are left with the choice of throwing a failed product out, even
if it costs hundreds, or going to a techno-shrine like the Apple Store.
It won't be long until we all have feeding or walking or washing technicians.
Are we really better off?
YMMV,
-John
