Dave,

What I find most shocking is that Yaesu would even repair this radio.  They no longer repair much newer series than the FT-101 and many of the parts certainly aren't available new anymore.  I remember many years ago people were complaining that the FT-1000MP was no longer being repaired by Yaesu.

I wonder if he sent it to another repair shop.  The repair cost seems reasonable.

I agree with the others that if you cannot repair a vintage radio yourself (and there is a lot of help via the internet) then prepare to pay.
