On AM Freqs and "Loving thy Neighbor:"
It's all well and good to "love thy neighbor" when
"thy neighbor" has the same set of values.
But what if your "neighbor" is an SS-B Nazi
who has decided he is the "Mode Police,"
intentionally interferes with AM or is simply
a thoughtless, selfish pig who parks his new
"Redneck DooFuss Net" on 3883 every night,
when he has 400 KC of SS-B slop-dum to wallow in?
In that case, "Love thy neighbor" is a good way
to get run over and piddled-upon. Ask our
friends in Australia what happens when they try
to hold an AM QSO 5 KCs "off the reservation."
Now, I'm all for AMers sticking to some agreed-upon
windows so we can find each other.
But it ain't about "loving;" it's about surviving.
That old "Can't we all just get along" attitude
today means *you* are going to be the one doing
all the "getting along." If you let them,
they'll demand you "get along" right off the air.
Since a few of our "tall ship" stations down here
in the South have shown they have some backbone
and refuse to be bullied, things have gotten much
better here for AM, but it's still tough in lots of
other places.
So IMNSHO, stay in or near the traditional windows,
and be ready to politely but FIRMLY defend them.
I have the "right" to run a RTTY net on 146.52 MC
if I want. That doesn't make it morally right
for me to do so. Neither is it right for an
SS-B hog to set up his fed trough on 3879 KC.
