I have two RME 45 receivers on my bench which I believe to be RME 45B models. However, I am not sure which ones they are.
They are Serial number SG 87 B
and
Serial number CH 53 B
I have number SG 87 B working to an extent. It is receiving signals well on the AM broadcast band, the Short Wave band in the 5mhz to 7mhz, WWV at 16 mhz and the citizens band. It may be receiving signals throughout the entire 530 khz to 30 mhz bands. I just haven tuned them all carefully. The main thing wrong with it, at this time, is that the BFO doesn't work. I have recapped the receivers but now wish to get the Beat Frequency Oscillator working. It receives CB band well for an "old tube receiver".
I have all manuals and schematics that are on the BAMA web site. I also have the Sams Photofact. The receiver without the BFO isolating has the following tube line up:
7B7, RF amplifier
7B7 converter
7B7 1st IF
7S7 2nd IF
7B6 BFO
7A6 2nd detector automatic noise limiter
7C7 1st audio amplifier
7C5 output amplifier
5Y3 rectifier ( may have been changed by previous owner)
VR150 regulator
This receiver came with a 7C& in place of the 7B7 and a 7A6 as a second detector but the receiver doesn't work with that tube lineup.
I am not sure the above tube line up is correct, but the receiver is working reasonably well EXCEPT THE BEAT FREQUENCY OSCILLATOR.
RME 45 number CH 53 Bis not working well at all ....just making hiss and strange sounds. I am not sure what the tube line up should as it has NO tube location and nomenclature tag inside and is missing.
If you have RME 45s with very close serial numbers, please provide me with information if you can. I am very close on SG 87 B, I just need to get the BFO working.
The identification of which serial number is which B model and not knowing which schematic is applicable to each makes the situation very confusing. Any experience with these old receivers will be appreciated if you can share it. Thanks and 74, John, K5PGW
