I'd use, and do use, AutoCAD. I've tried some others, but have run into
things you just cannot do. An example that caused me lots of grief was the
inability to TRIM the intersection of two lines.

Yes, AutoCAD is complex, but you can ignore many of the bells and
whistles. You only really need the "Draw" and "Edit" menus.

Also, the ability to draw PLINEs is very handy.  IMO, it can't be beat for
really pretty drawings.
