Agreed, John. If money is no object, why not? And I'd agree with you
on the SS alternates if I knew more about 'em!
The story of Joe's purchase is true. I saw the ebay auction, along
with the then-high $4K + he purchased a nice SX-115 for. That was
later passed by someone paying $6K for one. Since then, they have also
plunged, below $1K in many cases. I've seen multiple listings in
different venues for 2004 prices, repeated numerous times, with no
sale.
It certainly isn't my place or intention to tell anyone what they
should ask or pay for something. I'm a free market capitalist pig
through-and-through. I was simply expressing my opinion of a better
option, for far less money. Occasionally something surfaces that I end
up spending a lot more for than many folks might, simply because I
want it and I can afford to, at that particular time. Other times I
let some great deals go by since funds are needed elsewhere.
Of course, if you don't mind being patient, I'd bet they'll be even
cheaper in the coming decade. One of my fears is coming across one at
a yard sale or junk shop for $50 and not having any cash on hand,
having given it to my wife or used it for something else an hour
earlier!
