Hi Fellows,

Terrific response,and I thank all of you for the input----I was able to 
check the many  good suggestions and it boiled down to the mis-match from 
the transceiver,----I am using a Kenwood TS-940 with a buit in Antenna Tuner 
to drive the Gonset  (I normally do not use the tuner for my antennas or 
other amps )

Once I matched the Input of the Gonset amplifier for 80 mtrs with the tuner 
in the 940,all was well and I get the same output,plate current etc as on 
the higher bands.

BTW,the Wattage readings are not done with a Bird wattmeter,most of the time 
I still use a lightbulb, my 1950 method,hi.

Now I have to figure out,how to get a''tuned input for 80 '' into the Gonset 
so I don't have to fiddle with the tranceiver every time.
