Let me second that on Electret mics and noise.
I have a railroad yard that is having a devil of a time
with their telephones.  It's noisy environment and the electret 
mics make it tough to hear on the phones.  And you can't buy 
anything except electrets these days!  I told them we needed to 
go to antique stores and buy-up all the old AT&T and W.E. 
telephones.   Get an old telephone carbon mic element.
You'll be happy ;-).
