[Boatanchors] Fw: tcs 12 transmitter microphone modification details

I don't know what would "substitute" for the mike button in the UK! The
Western Electric "F1" or "T1" button/cartridge was by far, the best single
button carbon microphone I have ever found. They were once very plentiful
or could be scrounged from old telephone handsets. In the TCS the carbon
mike via a transformer and some DC bias DIRECTLY drives the two 1625
modulator tubes! No preamplifier. If you make a modification for a dynamic
or electret mike it will require additional circuitry!

You "can" use the single button "military" carbon microphones, but it has
been my experience that the output from all of them is too low to get a
decent audio output level! The TCS only runs ONE of the Tubes in the final
stage PA stage on A3 'phone! You are lucky to get 15-20 watts RF output MAX
in "voice" mode.

Someone may have a diagram for "subbing" a dynamic or electret mike element
which would probably work great, but presently I have no circuits. I use my
TCS-12 very little on A3 voice. 99% of operation is on CW.

Hope this helps a bit.

Gentlemen,
I have acquired a complete TCS12 system but with a useless microphone. I
believe that there is a modification that enables a modern insert to be used
or an 'electret' insert. Can anyone direct me to the modifications details
please or mail me the circuitry. This rig looks like it just came out of
the shipping box, its been well cared for.
thanks in advance and regards
