I have shipped well over 100 boatanchor radios and tube audio gear all
over the world and the US using sheet Styrofoam for padding and I don't
double box. The Styrofoam takes care of the need for the double box. I
also wrap the item in several layers of the large bubble pack.
Fortunately, I have never had a problem. I also think I have been lucky
too although I do pack well. I use Fed-Ex ground for domestic and the
post office for international
UPS can't even deliver an envelope without messing it up. I have had
envelopes delivered by UPS and they arrived crumpled as well.
