Are there any other markings on them? It sounds like a
ballast or resistor tube. They were made by Clarostat,
Knight, JFD, and others. These are power reistors for line
dropping rather than regulators like the Amperite tubes.
There were common in many AC/DC sets including radio, TV,
intercom, etc.
Triad made transformers but might have made resistor
tubes too although I can't find any sign of them in old
catalogues.
