I would remove the ferrite cup and try it!  However, if you can find an i.f. transformer without the cup that would have a better probability of working.

I do have a 455Kc coil from an IF can.  The only issue I see is that it  appears to have a ferrite "cup" around it.
 
I wonder *IF* I could use that to make one.  I'm trying to get to 455Kc.
