Call it whatever you want, but the 837 can be modulated by applying an  
appropriate bias and audio signal to it's suppressor grid but the 1625  
CANNOT  be modulated by applying the same treatment to it's beam  
forming plates.  This issue/discrepancy/confusion/whatever came up a  
while ago
on another list in regard to the 813 which DOES bring out it's beam  
forming plates to a separate pin on the base vs. the 803 which is a  
pentode like the 837.

As to why the prevalence of misleading base diagrams I don't have a  
clue......

Those who remains skeptical as to the number of grids in a 1625 are  
invited to crack one open and make a count.
