I saw a guy selling two Rangers at a chilly midwinter ham swapfest in Pittsburg
around 1990
at 6:30 a.m. on an ICY parking lot, for $50 each. He also had a couple of Viking
IIs and a
Valiant I for a little bit more money each - like maybe $100 - 125, I think.
Our vehicle was stacked from floor to ceiling with boys, suit cases and ice
hockey equipment
or I would have brought them ALL home!

Today, joined a ragchew roundtable on 40M AM (7.160) using the Globe Scout.
Everyone pronounced the audio FB, I was pushing about 30 watts to an 88'
doublet. Two in the group had owned Scouts and missed them.
I never owned one, don't recall knowing anyone who did, even as a Novice in the
early 60s. Bought this used one because they evidently were quite popular in
their day. My last AM QSO was in 1979 with a Viking Ranger, boy did I screw up
selling that rig for $50 in 1980, they seem to go for ten times that now.
