Somebody is going to have to referee this.

The 1948 Radio Amateur's Handbook - Twenty-Fifth Edition, pg. 605 gives 
the specs.  It references base diagram 5AZ also.  It INDEED shows the 
suppressor grid tied internally to the cathode.

It would appear that the ARRL has published conflicting information.

My RCA tube manual from 1957 agrees with the above, and so does my '64 
GE Electronics, "Essential Characteristics".

I'm confused!
