While I'm collecting parts to build an HBR receiver, I've decided to build an intermediate receiver to gain some experience preparing a chassis, drilling and tapping, hole cutting for the tube sockets, etc.. wiring, front panel construction, etc..
I'm thinking of building the 2X4+ Superhet. It's a early 60's or late 50's design, 5 tube not counting the OB2 regulator. It uses some shielded adjustable RF coils in the IF instead of regular IF transformers. My junk box is empty in the coil department so I need to start building that up.
They call out these values but anything in the ballpark will work 64-105 uf and 36-64 uh adjustable shielded chassis mounted coils. The article called out "North Hills 120-F in North Hills S-120 shield can". I've never heard of those folks before. I'm figuring there are some Miller or Millen or Meissner equivilent out there.
I'm also looking for some 1800 Kc IF's from the 3-6 Mc ARC-5's, plus the BFO from a BC-453.
Also looking for some Miller 612-M1 IF's, 012-M5 BFO transformers
Also looking for any junker or partial build or rough HBR's to use for parts.
Also looking for a suitable small cabinet with a lid for the HBR project. I'm still figuring out the sizes, in the 15"wx11d "x10 h " catagory and 21"w x11"d x 10" h
Thanks, 73, Scott WA9WFA
