Bob,

You are right, I forgot about the 46 line from Halli.  I have a couple of 117/44 pairs but I have never run across the later "twins".

Maybe Carl was thinking of the HT-46-SX-146 twins from Hallicrafters?

Neat little radios, with the self-contained power supply the transmitter 
is about the most compact SSB rig I know of and they work very well.  
However by the time they came out in the late '60s, the transceiver was 
really the thing.
